Hindsight is Online in 2017!
The Optometric Historical Society has been publishing a quarterly newsletter or journal since 1970. Originally titled Newsletter of the Optometric Historical Society (1970-1991, Volumes 1-22) and Hindsight: Newsletter of the Optometric Historical Society (1992-1996 Volumes 23-27), the journal began publication under the title Hindsight: Journal of Optometry History in 2007 (Volume 38, Number 1). Back issues of Hindsight are available online through the Indiana University Bloomington’s Library website. Beginning in 2016, current issues of Hindsight are available online to regular and student members of the Society. Sustaining and Scholar Members also receive print editions.
Past and frequent contributors to Hindsight have written several vignettes exploring historical topics and pivotal events in the history of the profession and the Association. These pieces provide examples of the scholarship and research regularly featured in the journal. Please feel free to explore these topics using the links to the left of this page. If you would like to contribute to the journal or have other questions regarding its content, please contact the editor, Dr. David Goss, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN 47405 at firstname.lastname@example.org.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Hindsight: The Journal of Optometry History is now reviewing submission for upcoming issues.
We are particularly interested in seeking submissions that explore the experiences and perspectives of women and persons of color in the profession and are eager to add the voices of our student members! A variety of material will be considered for publication, including but not limited to oral histories and personal narratives, biographical sketches, historiographies, original research articles on relevant topics and critical essays. Instructions on how to submit and author instructions and guidelines are available at IU Scholarworks.
The editorial staff of Hindsight: The Journal of Optometry History is seeking reviewers for future issues. Reviewers should have expertise in the areas of optometry, history, the history of science and medicine and/or the history of medical technology. To volunteer to apply as a reviewer in the double-blind review process, download and complete the Reviewer Application and submit it to the editor at email@example.com.
