Examples of Projects

Below are examples of types of projects that can be utilized through HEHC funding.  These examples are not all inclusive.

School-Based or Community Event Model

Reach out to a local charity where eyeglasses may be needed (YMCA, local school) and plan a recurring monthly date or a larger vision fest to provide no cost eye exams on-site at their location.

Office-Based Model

Create local promotion to offer complimentary vision exams for low-income, underprivileged families at existing Optometrists office locations. Offer a recurring monthly date, to create momentum around the community events.

Community Action Plan

Host a lunch or dinner meeting where Optometrists invite community leaders such as the mayor, school superintendent and/or health department to discuss the current gaps in vision services for their most underserved school-aged children and develop action plans to overcome barriers and coordinate vision services.

Personalized Model

Address the vision needs of the poorest children in your community.  Build a sustainable program bridging the gap between access and affordability, involving local coalition members to include fellow Optometrists along with government, charitable, corporate and community stakeholders.

Your investment will ensure that The AOA Foundation continues to provide immediate relief to those in need in the wake of natural disasters, vision care to needy Americans, scholarships for optometry students, preservation of optometry’s history and public education about the need for a lifetime of vision care.
